I cannot believe it is already July! I hope you and your family are excited about the fourth of July and spending time together. I know I am ready for a break and extra time to spend with my family. Nonetheless, while spending time with my family is great, my favorite part about the fourth is the fact that there is a national hot dog eating contest. That’s right, the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest will be held on the fourth of July. If you have nothing better to do, and want to see grown men and women eat hot dogs for a long time, it is a much watch; however, if you have a weak stomach, I would suggest you forgo this activity! J All Kidding aside, I wanted to take this article and thank a few people who put many hours into an event that took place last month. One of the biggest things that we do at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church is Vacation Bible School, and without the many hands that go into this event, we would not be able to make this happen. Therefore, I want to take a second and personally thank them in this article.
First of all, I want say thank you to the kitchen staff who took of their time to make dinner each night of VBS for our volunteers. While many do not see the time and effort that goes into this, the outcome goes unnoticed. These ladies provided dinner for volunteers and their families, made sure it was ready on time, served with a smile, and made sure each person was happy. I and all of the volunteers are very thankful for their dedication to us and the Lord. If you were a volunteer at VBS, make sure you take a minute and thank the ladies who provided the meals each night of VBS
Secondly, I want to say thank you to the preschool volunteers. Laura Wilkerson and her team did a great job this year organizing, leading, and orchestrating the preschool VBS. We had several kids come through this year, and I know those little ones and their families were blessed this year by our VBS and the preschool section of it.
Third, I want to thank those individuals behind the scenes of VBS. These would include those people who served in photography, the sound booth, greeting, first aid station, and security. Your dedication and heart does not go unnoticed, and we are thankful for your service to those children and the families who came. We could not do it without their dedication and willing heart. If you know any of these individuals, take a minute and thank them when you see them.
Fourth, I want to thank those volunteers who served at the registration table, Bible Discovery, KidVid Cinema, Imagination Station, Snack Factory, and Games. These would include our station leaders (Jeff McCarthy, Jeremiah Custar, Kara Custar, Vickie Masingale, Sherri and Roddy Hayes) and the volunteers who served under them. These are the main classes that the children visited every night within the Elementary section. All of these individuals put in several hours preparing and leading their stations, and we are thankful for their service and dedication.
Fifth, I want to say a special thank you to the Crew Leaders. This is the most important volunteer position and the most tiring; however, all of them worked, served, and dedicated their time with a smile on their face. For that reason, I am very thankful for each of them, and I hope they will come back next year! J We have a great time, and I love working alongside each of them.
Last but not least, I want to say a special thank you to my VBS committee and a few individuals who helped me along the way. This includes the following: Gina Wilkerson, Sonja Shotwell, Sarah Browning, Tony Stephenson, Bill Austin, Jonathan Hendrickson, Jeremiah Custar, Laura Wilkerson, Bobby and Lucy Crews, Stephanie and Jody Browning, Ed Phipps, and Jeff McCarthy.
At this point, I am sure I missed someone, and if I did, I apologize. I am grateful for all of the volunteers who served, gave of their, and prayed for a successful VBS this year. Thank to you to those who weren’t able to volunteer during the week, but continued to pray, donate and encourage all of us throughout the weeks leading up to VBS. I am grateful each of you, and it is a privilege to serve alongside each of you as we strive to bring others to Jesus Christ and his saving grace. I am looking forward to next year, and I hope you are too! May God bless you and family this July.
By the Grace of God Alone,
