Kid’s Korner

Happy March to you… April fools! It’s really the month of April as you know, and it is finally springtime! The nice weather is here, tax season is almost over, college basketball is coming to a close, and summer is right around the corner. It is also a time of new beginnings and changes for the world around us. plants and trees are beginning to bloom, and we are really able to witness God’s beautiful creation in the state of North Carolina during this time. It is for this reason many believe that this month was given the name April. The word April comes from the Latin word Aprilis, which is derived from the verb aperire meaning, “to open.” In other words, the month was named April because nature is beginning “to open” and change around us. With that thought in mind, I would like to take this article and talk about an event that is about “to open” or “take place” in the kid’s ministry and the community.

With April this year comes the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Element Kids Children’s Ministry. This Egg Hunt will take place on April 15 and take place from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. This is one of the biggest events we do every year, and the reason we do it is to reach the community around us for the gospel of Christ. All of us enjoy candy, and watching children become excited at their Easter basket full of candy; however, the main reason we do this is to help our community see the love of Jesus, and I cannot think of a better way to do this Easter. Parents are concerned about a safe environment where their children can hunt eggs, and our church offers that to the community around us. Therefore, we want to take advantage of this opportunity, and provide the best possible Egg Hunt and experience we can. As a result, we pray that those who come on our property will see the love and grace of our Savior, and in turn accept him as their Savior.

With that being said, we cannot provide an excellent Egg Hunt without your help. Therefore, I want to encourage you to consider serving at this event. We need greeters, parking attendants, people to serve food, hide eggs, and offer a smiling face to those who come from the community. If you can serve in any of these capacities, please find a volunteer form in your bulletin or at the connection center. Take a minute to fill that form out, and upon completion, drop it in the offering plate or at the church office. If you cannot physically serve on April 15, but would still like to participate, we are still in need of candy and individuals to help us fill the eggs with candy. You can drop off bags of individually wrapped pieces of candy in the orange containers at all of the main entrances of the church. Please make sure those pieces of candy can fit in small plastic eggs. If you would like to help us fill eggs with candy, we will be doing that on April 12 at 6:30 PM in the CFC. You are more than welcome to come and help us out! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Lastly, I want to provide you with a few more details about the Egg Hunt so you can share it with family and friends. First of all, we are having a special guest with us to lead our “worship time” that morning. Ivan, a 4.5 ft Iguana will be coming with his owners, Ted and Darry Conner. The three of them will share their ministry and show us how animals teach the world about God and his creation. You and your children will not want to miss it. Secondly, we will be having a huge egg hunt for all the children that want to participate. The age range is from infants to 6th grade. Lastly, we will end with a FREE hot dog lunch and door prizes for all those who stick around for the entire event.

With all of that being said, I hope you will take advantage of two things this month: The opportunity to serve at the Egg Hunt and the chance to share this information with those around so that they can ultimately come to believe in Jesus Christ and his saving grace. Thank you for taking the time to read this article, and I want you to know that it is a privilege to serve you and your family as your children’s pastor. I pray you have a blessed month!

For His Glory Alone,

Nick Decker
