The Same Power Lives in Us
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.
And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead,
he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Romans 8:11 NLT
For VBS this year, we are going to meet on the five Sunday Nights in August. The theme for this year is: “Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through.” For each night, we will discover one aspect of how Jesus’ Power helps us. Each lesson has a theme verse.
On each Sunday morning in August, we will preach a sermon based on the theme verse and topic for that night. Beginning August 1st until the last Sunday on the 29th, we will learn Jesus’ Power helps us do hard things, gives us hope, helps us be bold, lets us live forever, and helps us be good friends. Of course, the key to Jesus’ power helping us is if we have Jesus living in us.
This idea is found in the verse chosen for the month’s memory verse that corresponds to the topic for the 4th Sunday morning and night, Romans 8:11. We will be memorizing the NLT version: “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
The only way Jesus’ power can help us is if He is living in us.
Jeremy Camp has a worship song called “Same Power” that puts lyrics to this idea. The chorus to the song is:
The same power that rose Jesus from the grave The same power that commands the dead to wake Lives in us, lives in us The same power that moves mountains when He speaks The same power that can calm a raging sea Lives in us, lives in us He lives in us, lives in us
This song and Paul’s verse in Romans has huge implications for us. According to both, the same Spirit of God that has the power to raise Jesus from the dead lives in us. Not only that, but this same power will raise our mortal bodies when we die. The question is, do we really believe that this same powerful Spirit lives in us now?
It is our prayer that we will be a church that believes this same Power lives in us and helps us daily live as Christians.
I love you and it’s a privilege to be your pastor. Jeff
